A Commission and the OPA National Show!

Here is a private commission that I finished recently. The client requested a performance magic themed painting so I created this piece of a magician producing a dove, inspired by some of J. C. Leyendecker's arrow collar illustrations from the last century. I think I'll call it "Grand Illusion."

Also, I've just been notified that my painting, Ukulele, has been accepted to the Oil Painters of America 21st Annual National Juried Exhibition of Traditional Oils! The show will take place from June 22nd - July 21st at Evergreen Fine Art Gallery in Evergreen, Colorado.

  1. You've done a great job on the comission. How did you source the inspiration? I always find it so hard to get quality images to use as inspiration?

Congrats on the getting into the exhibition!

  2. Thank you. I've admired the work of J.C. Leyendecker for quite some time. There is a wonderful book available that is full of his work.

  3. Your work is amazing. I LOVE both pieces, but the movement of the bird's wings and the delicate gesture of the magician's hand is AWESOME. :)

  4. Love this. By the way, I'd like for you to do a post on the logistics of drawing people in coffee shops. What to do what/if they catch you, whether or not you ever ask them to come over and sit... All of that. :)

  5. Dom, sounds like a great idea. I'll try to put together a post about that in the near future.
